Beautiful June Is here!
What a lovely start to the beautiful month of June after having such a miserable wet May?
it’s so lovely to have the sunshine and to be able to get in the garden again.
June is also a special month for me as we celebrate our wedding anniversary, I was married on the 6th of June 34 years ago.
This year, to celebrate, my husband Keith took me to Suffolk for a few days along with our two beautiful little dogs Peggy and Bella and our trusty home on Wales (our touring caravan) it was an ancestry finding trip as Keith’s family come from near Bury St Edmunds ( incidentally where we usually stand at the Christmas fayre) which was really fascinating, we had a lovely time.
It made me start thinking of our actual wedding day all those years ago and all of the little gifts that I was given when emerged from the church a new Mrs Prince.
The tradition in this country is to give a horseshoe to the bride when she emerges from the church ceremony and I received a plastic silver horseshoe with small white flowers and Green fern like paper leaves, I also received a rolling pin with ribbons and flowers and the most hideous black plastic ( covered in flock) cat with bright green plastic eyes.
It is actually quite terrifying but I have never dared to throw this away and have kept it in the loft along with my wedding cards and the other mementos incase of bad luck.
A few years ago when I was looking to buy a lucky horseshoe for a family wedding I realised that times hadn’t changed much and you still couldn’t buy a lovely horseshoe or memento for the bride. Plastic with silk flowers was all that was available.
So that’s when I set about the task of designing my own, which has adapted a few times along the way to today’s beautiful personalised handmade wooden horseshoe.
Each one uniquely cut, painted and decorated in our little workshop on the Lincolnshire coast.
I also make many other items for weddings including personalised hearts, bunting and even Bridesmaids and flower girls gifts.
Of course last year was a complete washout for weddings and I had lots of cancellations of wedding gifts due to the pandemic and I’m really hoping that all of the couples have now been able to reschedule their wedding date to the not too distant future.
